Houston is located in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, United States. Houston is a Main Street Community. The population was 3,623 at the 2010 census. Houston is one of two county seats in Chickasaw County. Joel Pinson donated land for Houston and requested it be named for his good friend, Sam Houston.

CarnegieLibrary-300x156.jpgAs of the census of 2010, there were 3,623 people; 1,380 households, and 934 families residing in the town. There were 1,556 housing units. Racial make-up was 51.0% Caucasian, 41.4% African American, .01% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.3% Asian Indian, 0.32% Chinese, 0.12% Filipino, 0.1% Vietnamese; 5.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.2% of the population.

There were 878 households with children under the age of 18 living with them, 536 households were married couples living together, 70 households were male with no wife present, 328 households were female with no husband present, 446 households were non-family. There were 417 households where the householder lives alone. Households with individuals 65 years and over were 400. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.19.​
