The Kansas Energy Council was dissolved by Governor Sebelius on December 31, 2008, in Executive Order 08-13.
- Established by Governor Sebelius on June 1, 2004, in Executive Order 04-05, the Council was reformulated in subsequent Executive Orders (06-06, 06-13, 07-16, and 08-06).
- The Council adopted an annual process to develop background information and policy recommendations on selected priority topics, which were published each year in the Kansas Energy Report.
- The Kansas Energy Council replaced the State Energy Resources Coordination Council (SERCC), which was established in 2002 by former Governor Graves.
- In December of 2003, Governor Sebelius requested the formation of a special task force to study and make recommendations relating to the siting of wind-power projects in the Flint Hills/Tallgrass Prairie region of Kansas. The Wind and Prairie Task Force (WPTF) delivered its report in June 2004 and was disbanded.
