Gov. Sanford to Join MAP Commission in Columbia
COLUMBIA MEETING TO GATHER INPUT
FROM MIDLANDS RESIDENTS

Columbia, S.C. - August 26, 2003 - Governor Mark Sanford will join Ken Wingate and other members of the Governor's Commission on Management, Accountability and Performance (MAP) in Columbia tomorrow evening (August 27, 2003) for the Commission's fifth regional hearing. Previously, the MAP Commission has held regional hearings Aiken, Greenville, York and Florence.

Similar to the Grace Commission created in the 1980's by former President Ronald Reagan, the MAP Commission has been charged with studying the management of current government operations in an effort to propose changes which will reduce costs, consolidate similar functions, return certain functions and job creation to the private sector and help South Carolina become more competitive in a global economy.

Tomorrow's hearing will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Academic Center at Midlands Technical College, Airport Campus (1260 Lexington Drive, West Columbia). Citizens interested in participating should arrive 30 minutes in advance and sign up to make suggestions and recommendations to the commission.

For more information or directions from your location please contact Chris Drummond or Will Folks in the Governor's Office at 803-734-2100.
