Sanford to Join MAP Commission in Columbia
COLUMBIA MEETING TO GATHER INPUT
FROM MIDLANDS RESIDENTS
Columbia,
S.C. - August 26, 2003 - Governor Mark Sanford will join Ken Wingate
and other members of the Governor's Commission on Management, Accountability
and Performance (MAP) in Columbia tomorrow evening (August 27, 2003)
for the Commission's fifth regional hearing. Previously, the MAP
Commission has held regional hearings Aiken, Greenville, York and
Florence.
Similar
to the Grace Commission created in the 1980's by former President
Ronald Reagan, the MAP Commission has been charged with studying
the management of current government operations in an effort to
propose changes which will reduce costs, consolidate similar functions,
return certain functions and job creation to the private sector
and help South Carolina become more competitive in a global economy.
Tomorrow's
hearing will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Academic Center
at Midlands Technical College, Airport Campus (1260 Lexington Drive,
West Columbia). Citizens interested in participating should arrive
30 minutes in advance and sign up to make suggestions and recommendations
to the commission.
