Environmental Cleanup
The 1995 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission approved the closure of Fort McClellan and the relocation of the U.S. Army Military Police School and U.S. Army Chemical School to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. This announcement resulted in the preparation of numerous documents that identified the environmental condition, the future land uses, and the required environmental clean up of the Fort McClellan properties prior to transfer to the public domain. These initial documents served as the basis for future environmental investigations.
Community Involvement
Community involvement is important throughout the entire BRAC closure process and Fort McClellan is committed to providing information which outlines the Army's progress toward transfer of property to the community. Citizens of local communities are encouraged to become involved in the decision-making processes associated with ongoing environmental activities by attending public meetings and reviewing available information. Additional methods used to sustain two-way communication between the Army and the local communities include newsletters, fact sheets, public notices, and specific boards and committees.

Administrative Record
Contents of the Administrative Record include a variety of written material, such as Environmental Baseline Studies, Archive Search Reports, and Site Investigation Reports. Also included, but not limited to, are Community Relations Plans, public meeting minutes/transcripts, and Findings of Suitability to Transfer/Lease documents.

Former DA Military and Civilians

Due to the 1999 closure of Fort McClellan as an active Army installation, all historical records were archived and retired to the National Archives and Records Administration.

The USAG, Fort McClellan does not maintain any records of prior military or civilian service here at Fort McClellan. We cannot furnish or locate any military records for prior military service at Fort McClellan.

Property Reuse
In early 1999, the local community leaders established the McClellan Development Authority (MDA) for the purpose of overseeing the redevelopment and reuse of Fort McClellan.
