The NCI at Frederick is a community of more than 2,800 government- and contractor-employed biomedical researchers, laboratory technicians, and support staff, the majority of whom work on-site at the Frederick, Maryland campus of the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

NCI at Frederick comprises several cancer research facilities including the 68-acre campus at Fort Detrick, the Advanced Technology Research Facility, the Vaccine Pilot Project, and others.

NCI at Frederick is located approximately 40 miles northwest of the NCI main campus at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), the only federally funded R&D; center dedicated exclusively to biomedical research, that offers unparalleled partnering opportunities between academia, government, and the private sector to address the most difficult challenges in cancer prevention and treatment.

The RAS Initiative at FNLCR

Research teams from the NCI Center for Cancer Research, developing new insights into cancer biology through cancer genomics, nanotechnology, and bioinformatics.
Investigators from the NCI Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis, who work together to understand the genetic and environmental causes of cancer, and to develop promising therapeutics to treat childhood brain tumors and other cancers.

NCI at Frederick works with partners in academia, government, and industry to develop faster and less expensive ways of turning laboratory discoveries into new diagnostic tests and treatments for cancer and HIV/AIDS.
