Public Notice: A message to the parents of school-aged children on MCAS New River and Camp Lejeune

The deadline to get your child vaccinated or have an opt-out waiver turned into the school is Thursday, Dec. 1. As of today, only 50% of the Camp Lejeune-New River school population is complete and nearly 1,500 students remain. With Thanksgiving break and only two weeks to go, the time to get this done is NOW!

PLEASE NOTE: If a student has not received the required vaccine by Dec. 1, or does not have a waiver on file at the school, a letter of disenrollment will be sent to the parents. Students will not return to school until the vaccine requirement is met or a waiver is on file.

These schools will be administering the vaccine on the following dates:

  • Johnson Primary School - Nov. 18
  • Heroes Elementary School - Nov. 21
  • Lejeune High School - Nov. 22

The main hospital's immunization clinic and the pediatric clinic are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays on a walk-in basis to provide flu vaccines with the following exceptions: The immunization clinic does not perform immunizations Thursdays 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. due to training and the pediatric clinic does not offer immunizations Tuesdays 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. due to training.

Public Notice: Jogging trail south of Perimeter Road reopened

During construction of the new Perimeter Road fence line and underground utilities in 2013, munitions-related items were discovered in close proximity to Recreation Area 8. Further research revealed these munitions were likely associated with three historic ranges that were active between 1946 and 1977. A munitions removal action was subsequently conducted to aid in the completion of these construction activities. As a precautionary measure, Recreation Area 8 (softball field, small playground, covered pavilion, and primitive campsite) and the property south of old Perimeter Road to the borders of Southwest Creek remains closed until a detailed assessment can be conducted. In response to station-wide interest, the commanding officer has decided to reopen just the jogging trail in this area with the following restrictions: USERS MUST STAY ON THE PAVED TRAIL AT ALL TIMES as concerns for unexploded ordnance still exist in the general area. The trail will be re-closed for safety reasons once environmental investigations in the area continue in 2017. Please contact Public Affairs at 910-451-5655 for further information.
