VTrans completed construction of Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19 and announced the opening of the new bridge on June 8, 2015.

Guardrail will be completed the week of the 17th. The contractor is waiting for the material to be delivered.

Crews will continue work to complete the project when the guardrail is delivered. Short traffic delays are expected while this work is completed.

Ripton ER CULV (44) Project

VT 125 Ripton was reopened to one lane traffic with temporary signals at 8 pm on 7/23. Work will continue on site for next couple weeks.

Ripton ER CULV (44) Project

VT 125 MM 5.75 in Ripton will be closed from 8 AM   7/20/15 to 8 PM 7/25/15.

Purpose: Replace Large Metal Culvert Bridge 19 with a Precast Concrete Box Culvert

There will be a signed detour beginning on VT 100 to VT 73 to US 7 to VT 125

Construction Update Week of July 6, 2015 - Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19

VTrans completed construction of Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19 and announced the opening of the new bridge on June 8, 2015.

Crews continue work to complete the project.

Beginning Monday, July 6th, crews will install bridge joints.

On Tuesday, July 7th, line striping will take place.

This work is weather dependent.

Traffic delays are expected both days. Traffic will be controlled with flaggers.

Clean up work will continue for the remainder of the week.

Guardrail will not be completed for a few weeks, contractor is waiting on the material to be fabricated.

Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19 Opens

VTrans completed construction of Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19 over the White River in Rochester and announced the opening of the new bridge on June 8, 2015. The bridge, which is located near the intersection of VT 73 and VT 100 and approximately 0.5 miles south of Rochester Village, was damaged in Tropical Storm Irene and replaced with a temporary structure. Construction began on the new bridge in 2014 to replace the temporary bridge which did not meet current Vermont State Design Standards.

VTrans Project Manager Jennifer Fitch commented, "It has been an honor and privilege to work with the Rochester community, one of thirteen communities isolated in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. The completion of VT 73 Bridge 19 marks a significant achievement in Vermont's recovery efforts as all the state bridges damaged by Tropical Storm Irene have now been rehabilitated or replaced. It was community's support of accelerated bridge construction and partnering with the Agency of Transportation that made it possible to replace four bridges in one construction season - an unprecedented accomplishment. Accelerated bridge construction is changing the way we do business and deliver projects to our customers."

Following the bridge opening, construction will continue to complete removal of the temporary bridge and approaches, stone fill on the slopes, installation of the guardrail, curb, signs, final paving line striping and seeding and mulching . During this period, traffic delays will occur during most of these activities and will be controlled with flaggers.

Rochester Bridge 19 is the final bridge of six completed in the Rochester/Middlebury/Warren Bridge Projects. Middlebury VT 125 Bridge 13, Warren VT 100 Bridge 166, Rochester VT 73 Bridge 16, Rochester VT 73 Bridge 15 and Rochester VT 73 Bridge 13 were completed in 2014.

Construction Update Week of June 08, 2015 - Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Please use caution on Route 100 at the intersection of Route 73 as it is now a gravel surface.

During the week of June 8th, construction is scheduled to continue on Bridge 19 in Rochester.

Crews will finish fine grading the gravel on Route 100 Monday, expect short term delays.

Guard rail on the bridge will be installed, and it is possible the approaches will get paved, mid to late week. Expect delays on the day of paving.

The two-lane temporary bridge will continue to carry traffic over the White River during construction. VT 100 will be open to two way traffic in the evenings. Short duration traffic impacts are expected during construction.

Bridge 19 is scheduled to be completed in the summer and opened to traffic.

Construction Update Week of June 01, 2015 - Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19

During the week of June 1st, construction is scheduled to continue on Bridge 19 in Rochester.

Crews will begin to reconstruct the bridge approach on RT 73 early in the week. The curb on the bridge will be poured mid to late week. The approach slab on the RT 73 side will be formed and poured after backfill is completed.

The two-lane temporary bridge will continue to carry traffic over the White River during construction. VT 100 will be open to two way traffic in the evenings. Short duration traffic impacts are expected during construction.

Bridge 19 is scheduled to be completed in the summer and opened to traffic.

Construction Update Week of May 25, 2015 - Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19

During the week of May 25th, construction is scheduled to continue on Bridge 19 in Rochester.

Crews will begin to work on forming up the approach slab adjacent to RT 100. Route 100 will be down to one-way alternating traffic controlled with flaggers during the day for most of the week.

The two-lane temporary bridge will continue to carry traffic over the White River during construction. VT 100 will be open to two way traffic in the evenings. Short duration traffic impacts are expected during construction.

Bridge 19 is scheduled to be completed in the summer and opened to traffic.

About The Project

The Rochester/Middlebury/Warren Project includes the replacement of six bridges in Rochester, Middlebury, and Warren.

In 2014, five of the bridges were replaced and reopened to traffic, some in record time using accelerated bridge construction. These bridges include Bridge 15 over Corporation Brook, Bridge 16 over Bingo Brook, and Bridge 13 in Rochester on VT 73, and Bridge 13 over the Middlebury River in East Middlebury on VT 125 and Bridge 166 over the Mad River in Warren on VT 100.

Construction of Rochester VT 73 Bridge 19 began in 2014 and will be completed in 2015 using standard bridge construction methods. A temporary bridge built in 2014 will carry two lanes of traffic until the bridge is completed.
