The Aviation Center Logistics Command provides full spectrum maintenance, supply and contractor oversight in order to ensure availability for all Aviation training mission requirements in support of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Rucker and Fort Benning.
The ACLC was originally the Aircraft Logistics Management Division, a staff agency of the Directorate of Logistics, Fort Rucker. In February 2002, it was transferred to the Aviation Training Brigade and a pilot program between TRADOC and the U.S. Army Materiel Command to realign the training equipment maintenance mission from TRADOC to AMC began.
The objectives were twofold and testing of the program resulted in attaining the goals:
- Enable TRADOC to focus on training Soldiers while leveraging the maintenance expertise of AMC and its MSCs to improve the training fleet's readiness; and
- Complete maintenance functions within projected costs and reduce negative impacts to student training that had been hampered by past non-availability of equipment.
In February 2003, ALMD was placed under the operational control of the Aviation and Missile Command and became the Aviation Center Logistics Command. Then in August 2004 ACLC was formally activated as a provisional command under AMCOM.
