• Welcome from the First Lady

As the First Lady of West Virginia, I am pleased to welcome you to Serve West Virginia Military: Serving Those Who Serve Us (www.serve.wv.gov). I am especially thankful to the members of the Military Initiative Committee.

  • Show Appreciation to Military Spouses

West Virginians have always felt a sense of pride and duty to their state and country, and we have always found strength in our military men and women. West Virginia’s military men and women are constantly called to action in one way or another, and they always answer that call with enthusiasm, bravery and an overwhelming spirit to serve. They contribute so much to our state and the entire country with their continued efforts, and it is our time to show them that we appreciate the simple freedoms they help to provide for us every day. • West Virginia Heroes

The West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance (DVA) invites all West Virginians to help honor our state’s veterans by utilizing the new interactive online tribute, “West Virginia Heroes,” an element of the DVA’s new website, www.veterans.wv.gov. This feature is designed to help West Virginians share and commemorate personal stories and photographs of friends and family who have served in the United States military. Whoever your hero is – grandfather, sister, husband, son, friend – we’d love to hear a little about them. Learn More

Welcome to “Serve West Virginia Military.” As First Lady of West Virginia, it gives me great pride to launch this initiative in conjunction with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden’s national initiative, Operation Homefront and Joining Forces.
West Virginians have always answered military calls. We have the highest number of men and women serving our country per capita. With such a distinction, we have a number of families who support our military men and women while they are protecting our nation.
Serving those who serve us is a wonderful way of saying “Thank You” to military men and women. It will have a positive impact on so many people. The time and commitment you dedicated to expressing gratitude through each opportunity is as much a part of the project itself.
