The Friday before mother’s day is designated as the Military Spouse
Appreciation Day; Camp Darby Community gathered in the PX area to share red roses and
ice cream with the community spouses.
It takes three legs to make a strong army; Service Members, Unit and
Family,” said Rickcord Gibbons, Army Community Services (ACS) Director. “The
spouses are the third leg, the system will not stand without their incredible support”.
According to Gibbons it is important to recognize the spouse’s effort once a year,
if not once a day since they are the ones who do the hard job of keeping the family together
when the spouse is deployed and of helps reintegrating the family upon his return.
“I am really recognized every day by my husband,” said Melanie Lewis-Orr
“but it’s nice to see everybody coming out and spend some time together, besides,
who doesn’t like to receive rose?”
Monica Falco, spouse, also said that the hardest duties for a military spouse is separation
and deployment. “We received a red rose and were offered ice cream, it is nice to
see so many spouses here today, including the stay home ones” said Falcon.
