Yellow Dot

This program assists citizens in the “golden hour” of emergency care following a traffic accident when they may not be able to communicate their needs themselves.  Placing a Yellow Dot decal in your vehicle’s rear window alerts first responders to check your glove compartment for vital information to ensure you receive the medical attention you need.  The program is a cooperative effort between PennDOT, the Dept. of Health and Aging, the State Police, the Turnpike Commission, first responders and local law enforcement.

How can citizens participate?

Citizens complete a participation form, which includes emergency contact information, medical history, medications, allergies and doctors.  PennDOT then mails them a Yellow Dot kit.  A photo (showing only the head and shoulders) is then taped to the front of the completed information sheet before inserting into the kit's folder.  The Yellow Dot decal is placed in the lower left corner of the participant’s rear windshield, no higher than 3" from the bottom.

how can EMS and Safety Partners help Promote the Program?

PennDOT encourages you to share Yellow Dot benefits as part of your community outreach.  Informational handouts can be downloaded (for emailing) or printed from the links below.  They illustrate how the program works and tell people how they can request their own kit.  It’s perfect for health fairs, senior gatherings and other public events.  Because of the cost to assemble the kits, we ask that these materials be used as handouts, not the kits themselves.
