Center for High Energy Density Science
Mission

The mission for the Center for High Energy Density Science (CHEDS) is to strengthen fundamental research collaborations in the field of HEDS between LLNL and the academic community. As part of this mission, CHEDS facilitates access for students and faculty to LLNL HEDS experimental facilities and high performance computing resources in order to support university students and faculty research important to the Department of Energy (DOE). The Center's outreach to the university community also includes the organization of conferences and workshops in topical areas of common interest to the HED science community. HED science research, often referred to as the investigation of Matter under Extreme Conditions, is of fundamental importance to the LLNL's nuclear security mission. As such, LLNL maintains the world's foremost capabilities to study HEDS both experimentally and computationally.
