NOTAM: Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act
Requirements for Commanders Endorsement Letters
March 25, 2015
The Air Force Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) credentialing program is in its 4th month and is growing stronger daily. The staffs, in concert with Defense Consulting Services (DCS), is working diligently to ensure we achieve the overall LEOSA goal of granting credentials to qualified law enforcement officers. Feedback I have received indicates some Defense Force Commanders are adding additional requirements or preventing members from obtaining a LEOSA credential. The requirement for the commander's endorsement letter signifies verification the member has met the necessary requirements and he/she is in good standing. Commanders do not assume any additional liabilities by endorsing the member's application. If a SF member meets the training requirements identified in DoDI 5525.12, they must be afforded the opportunity to apply for the LEOSA credential. If a commander feels the individual should not be allowed to apply for a LEOSA credential, that justification should be included in the endorsement memorandum.
If you or your Defenders have questions regarding LEOSA policy, please contact Lt Col Rob Rossi, AF/A4SO, 571-256-0471, DSN 260-0471, or if there is a concern regarding LEOSA application process, they can contact MSgt Spencer, AFSFC/SFOP, 210-925-5037 or TSgt Vance, AFSFC/SFOP, 210-925-4006. You may also email your questions to afsfc.webmasters@us.af.mil. Additional information pertaining to LEOSA can be found on the LEOSA webpage on SMARTNet. Thank for all you do--it matters to our Defenders in the field!!
