Delaware Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission

Lincoln Bicentennial

In 2006 the 143rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware established the Delaware Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission "to plan and implement worthy activities" to honor our nation's 16th President. Two hundred years after his birth on February 12, 1809, the story of Abraham Lincoln continues to inspire. Born into humble circumstances, raised in the rough and tumble environment of the frontier, largely self-educated and faced with many hardships, his rise to greatness provides us with a shining example of the value of dedication and devotion, courage and sacrifice. One of our greatest Presidents, he is remembered today for his steady leadership during the dark days of the Civil War, his thoughtful and poetic messages, and his devotion to the cause of his fellow man. This year, programs and events in Delaware and across the country will recognize the many gifts and lasting legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
