  • Consular section will be closed to the public

    The U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section will be closed to the public on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. For emergencies you should contact the Embassy at (+597) 47 29 00 during normal working hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or via email at caparamar@state.gov For emergency services outside normal working hours, please contact the Embassy at (+597) 710 11 12. We ask that anyone seeking Consular services plan accordingly. 

  • U.S. Embassy Voting from Overseas Town Hall for American Citizens

    The U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo will hold a town hall event for U.S. Citizens this Saturday, July 23 on how to vote from overseas in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election. Mr. Jean-Rene Chapoteau, Consular Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy, will lead the presentation from 10:00 a.m. to1:00 p.m. at the American Corner located in the Cultural Center of Suriname, Henck Arronstraat 112-114.   • Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS) Fact Sheet

    In November 2014, The Governments of the United States and China entered into an agreement on a reciprocal basis, to issue visitor and business travel visas (B1/B2, B1 and B2) with 10-year validity. That same agreement recognized that travelers would be required to periodically complete an online form updating their biographical information. This requirement is new, and is similar to requirements that 38 countries currently must follow before traveling to the United States. The U.S. Government expects that the EVUS program will apply to additional countries in the future. 

  • Changes to Visa Waiver Program

    Under the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 changes have been made to the Visa Waiver Program. Please read this information before submitting an ESTA request.

    The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens living and traveling in Suriname of a public health concern regarding the zika virus. 

  • Chikungunya Virus

    The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens living and traveling in Suriname of a public health concern regarding the chikungunya virus. Chikungunya virus is a mosquito transmitted virus recently identified in Suriname and spreading.   • Register with our Embassy if you are in Suriname or French Guiana

    If you are going to live or visit Suriname and French Guiana, please take the time to tell our Embassy about your trip. If you enroll, we can keep you up to date with important safety and security announcements. It will also help your friends and family get in touch with you in an emergency.

Consular Rate

  • The current consular rate is 8.00 SRD to 1 USD. All consular fees, including visa fees, may be paid for in USD or SRD at the current consular rate, which is subject to change.
