Georgia Humanities

Georgia Humanities is a nonprofit organization working to ensure that humanities and culture remain an integral part of the lives of Georgians.

Our Work                                                                 The Hurt Building from USG Green Council

We  present stories and ideas that help individuals understand themselves and others.

We provide continual learning opportunities that are important for a functioning democracy.

We provide opportunities for reflection and thoughtful discussion that help enhance learning experiences.

We partner with libraries, museums and other cultural and educational institutions to carry out each program.

Why the Humanities Matter

The humanities include literature, philosophy, history, ethics, religion, art criticism and theory.

They form the building blocks of learning and provide crucial knowledge of our past that helps us make informed decisions for the future.

Because democracy depends on wisdom, civility and mutual respect, our democracy could not survive for long without the influence of the humanities.

Our Heritage

The Georgia Humanities Council was founded in 1971. It is the statewide affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities and is among the first of 56 state humanities councils founded in the nation.
