As Executive Director of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Mississippi’s Homeland
Security website. The Office of Homeland Security has the distinct honor and duty of
providing leadership in the protection of the citizens of Mississippi from terrorist attacks, both foreign and domestic. Homeland Security is also responsible for providing timely advice to the Governor and cabinet in order to efficiently and immediately address potential terrorist threats or acts. Additionally, Homeland Security is tasked with providing leadership for preventing, preparing against, mitigating, and recovering from any man-made or natural crisis.

What is CERT?
Community Emergency Response Teams or CERT is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security program that helps educate citizens about hazards and trains them in lifesaving skills so that they are better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. Local government prepares for everyday emergencies. However, during a disaster, emergency services can be overwhelmed.
