Invitations to Trooper Candidate Processing weekend, scheduled for October 1st and 2nd, have been mailed to applicants up to the rank of 13,000. All applicants are reminded to keep their contact information current and accurate in our Trooper Examination System via the link provided on our home page. IT STARTS NOW!
All candidates remaining on the competitive hiring list from the October 2013 Entrance Examination administration, and any supplemental examinations for Military personnel, are reminded of the importance of striving to and maintaining a high fitness level.
Those remaining on the list should be embracing the fact that the New York State Police could reach their name any day. The Physical Ability Test (PAT), comprised of sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5 mile run, is a section of the hiring process that the candidates can control the results based upon preparation. Applicants desiring information regarding their score and ranking may log on and view their results. Applicants who were unsuccessful; i.e., received a score below passing (70%), will receive a zero for their score and their ranking. It is anticipated that the next entrance examination process will be in the year 2017; however, individuals interested should realize that the application process starts now. Individuals interested should contact their local recruiter.

The New York State Police is a full service police agency, providing essential police services on a statewide basis. Through the Uniformed Force and Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Division of New York State Police maintains regular preventive patrols, assists motorists and other members of the public, conducts criminal and non-criminal investigations, and provides emergency and disaster services.
With over 4,500 sworn members, and more than 900 non-sworn employees, the New York State Police provides a myriad of special services that include: aviation, dedicated interstate patrols, canine patrols, SCUBA, counter terrorism, crime analysis, forensic sciences, forensic crime laboratory, commercial vehicle enforcement, Special Operations Response Team (similar to SWAT), narcotics enforcement teams, violent felony warrant squad, marine unit, crisis negotiation teams, accident reconstructionists, drug recognition experts, mobile command post, major crimes unit, auto theft unit, firearms tracing unit, hazardous materials enforcement, and computer crimes unit.
