BACKGROUND
Effective December 2, 2013, the Department awarded a new contract for electronic deposits that offered reduced costs and more options. However, sixty-six percent of Friends and Family continue to send money orders to inmates. Over 370,000 money orders are handled manually each year by ADC mail room and Inmate Trust Account staff.
In order to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of deposits into inmate trust accounts, the Arizona Department of Corrections is transitioning exclusively to an Electronic Funds System.
FOR ADC INMATES:
Effective October 15, 2014, the Arizona Department of Corrections will no longer accept Money Orders or Cashier Checks for deposit into an Inmate's Trust Account. The exception will be for Compassionate Leave payments and Visitation Background Fees. Family and Friends wishing to transfer funds into an Inmate's Trust Account may utilize electronic deposit services available through JPAY, KEEFE, or GTL by walk-up, phone, or internet.
FOR COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS OFFENDERS:
Effective January 1, 2015, the Arizona Department of Corrections will no longer accept Money Orders or Cashier Checks for payment of Community Corrections Fees. All payments for required Community Corrections fees shall be made through the Electronic Funds System available through JPAY, KEEFE, or GTL by walk-up, phone, or internet.
