Today is an important day in the life of our ship. Five years ago today, USS MICHAEL MURPHY was christened in Bath, Maine. Today is also a special day of remembrance for our namesake, LT Michael Murphy. LT Murphy was born on this day in 1976 in Smithtown, New York. He would have been 40 years old today. Happy Birthday LT Murphy!

Yesterday, the MICHAEL MURPHY crew celebrated his birthday with an early morning MURPH challenge, a chili cook-off, and cake cutting ceremony on the Messdecks. The crew also took the time to reflect on what this ship and LT Murphy's legacy means to them.

TEAM MURPHY stands proud to serve on the ship which bears his name and strive every day to carry on LT Murphy's legacy. He and the Sailors and Soldiers of OPERATION RED WINGS will never be forgetten. LEAD THE FIGHT

MICHAEL MURPHY recently hosted an Office of Naval Research demonstration onboard utilizing newly developed training technology that integrates live-action exercises while combating virtual assets and adversaries. The new technology, developed by the Fleet Integrated Synthetic Training/Testing Facility (FIST2FAC), will allow ships to independently simulate multi-mission scenarios from anywhere in the world, improving warfighter proficiency and strategic planning. It was a great opportunity for Team MURPHY.

  • Dear USS Michael Murphy: I would like to share with you a song I wro...te about September 11th called September Day 11th Day. I witnessed the attacks from three blocks away and wrote this song and put it to video with pictures. It is my way of paying homage to those police, firemen and emergency workers; who so valiantly did their duty to save people from such a horrific act inflicted on our city and country. I sang this song for a few years in a Catholic Church in lower Manhattan called Saint Andrews. God Bless You and your family! https://youtu.be/HU09-iZxs6Q Joseph D'Auria September Day 11th Day SEPTEMBER DAY ELEVENTH DAY Words and Music Copyrighted 2002 by Joseph D’Auria September Day, Eleventh Day it changed our world in America September Day, Reme... youtube.com See More

When I first saw Michael's picture/obituary I was shocked. I imagine...d my two sons and many nephews in his face and in His place. I couldn't control the tears and still have the nightmare of what this American Angel went through. God, Please comfort his parents. See More
