Louis Stokes Cleveland Dietetic Internship Program

 Cleveland Dietetic Interns

The Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (LSCDVAMC) offers a 49 week ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship Program that is combined with a 16 month Master's Degree Program at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Supervised practice experiences in Medical Nutrition Therapy, Foodservice Systems Management and Community Nutrition are offered in accordance with practice areas of registered dietitians at the LSCDVAMC. The program offers a single concentration in Research Processes and Applications. Dietetic interns are paid a stipend of $14,884 during the 49 week dietetic internship and are eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians upon dietetic internship completion in July.

Dietetic interns take a total of 17-18 credit hours at CWRU during the first academic year (August to May). They are assigned a research preceptor in the first semester who mentors them through the research process. In the third and final semester of the graduate program, students enroll for 12-13 hours of graduate credit.

Over 400 registered dietitians have completed the accredited dietetic internship at the LSCDVAMC since the program began in 1965 and there have been over 700 graduates of the Combined Dietetic Internship/Master's Degree Program at CWRU during this time. These master's prepared registered dietitians are employed throughout the country for positions in Medical Nutrition Therapy, Community Nutrition, Foodservice Systems Management and Research.
