ViSBARD is an interactive visualization and analysis tool for space physics data. It provides an integrated 3-D and 2-D environment to more readily determine correlations between measurements across many spacecraft. It supports a variety of spacecraft data products and MHD models and is easily extensible to others. See the about section for more information.

News & Announcements
page icon  Java Web Start Libraries Updated (2012/04/18)

Due to Oracle's purchase of Sun (which included Java) and a subsequent change in their policy of maintaining officially signed versions of Java's publicly hosted libraries, some of ViSBARD's Java Web Start libraries have been updated to be locally signed by the ViSBARD project.

page icon  MHD Field Lines Through Arbitrary Point (2010/06/05)

A beta feature has been added to allow MHD-based field lines to be generated through an arbitrarily selected point.

page icon  Service Release Posted (2010/05/06)

A new ViSBARD release was posted today that includes fixes for problems with Mac Mini/Intel-based graphics cards and cut plane vector plotting errors for GSM-based MHD models. We've also added the ability to export MHD-generated magnetic field lines to disk.

page icon  THEMIS Sample ViSBARD Session Posted; Minor Updates to ViSBARD (2010/04/20)

A sample ViSBARD session that includes data from all five THEMIS spacecraft is now available on the download page for results that look similar to those shown in the first few images here. It's also a good way to get familiar with ViSBARD's features.

There have also been a few minor updates to ViSBARD itself to handle session loading across different platforms and to load more variables from the THEMIS ESA data product.

page icon  ViSBARD's Web Start Application Signed with NASA Certificate (2010/02/18)

ViSBARD's Java Web Start application files are now signed by NASA's official certificate (as opposed to being self-signed by the development team) which may trigger a re-download of the files. Please let us know of any problems.

page icon  ViSBARD Poster at American Geophysical Union Meeting (2009/12/29)

ViSBARD's latest features were on display at the Fall 2009 meeting of the American Geophysical Union. See the page-sized version of the poster, "Three-dimensional Integration, Analysis, and Visualization of Simulated and Observed Heliophysics Data".

page icon  ViSBARD Source Code is Released (2009/12/03)

ViSBARD's source code has cleared the final administrative hurdles and is now available on its SourceForge page!

page icon  ViSBARD Homepage is Overhauled (2009/10/28)

Enjoy! Your feedback is invited.

page icon  Major Revision Released (2009/10/15)

A major revision of ViSBARD was released today which enables visualization of MHD data generated by the CCMC; currently-supported models include OpenGGCM and BATS-R-US. The data can currently be visualized as 2-D cutplanes, 3-D streamlines, or interpolated along the orbit trajectories of loaded spacecraft for model-observed data comparison. It also includes a vortex detection algorithm that finds and clusters flow vortices. See the images section for sample usage.

page icon  ViSBARD Approved for Open Source Release! (2009/09/14)

ViSBARD has received permission to be released under a NASA Open Source Software Agreement license by GSFC's Innovative Partnerships Program Office. The code will be made available as the details are ironed out and a public repository is configured.
