WWII Veteran Shares 'Pearl Harbor' Experience
On this 75th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Hines WWII Veteran and long-time volunteer, Peter Poulos shares his experience.
"At that time, I was working on the railroad..., out in the field on the tracks. I was ahelper when they first started putting up the gates. I was being taught how to wire up the gates. I was drilling holes in the tracks - on the tracks, you had to put down this bond wire so that when the trains hit that section in turned on the signal. The trains used to go by - flat cars loaded with supplies, tanks, trucks, ammunition - they had guards on them."
"I said to myself, what the hell am I doing here. I said that's where I belong - where that stuff's going. And that's when it triggered me and I dropped everything and I said I quit. The boss asked me where I was going and I said I'm going to join the Army. They need me there. When I got there, I said to myself, you stupid so and so... you were looking for action and you got it alright!""
