Jointly established by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988, the IPCC prepares comprehensive and up-to-date assessments of policy-relevant scientific, technical, and socio-economic information relevant for understanding the scientific basis of climate change, potential impacts, and options for mitigation and adaptation. Assessments are based upon peer-reviewed literature and publicly accessible non-journal literature, and are characterized by an extensive and open review process involving scientific/technical experts and governments before being accepted by the IPCC. The Panel was established to provide policymakers and other stakeholders with an objective source of information about climate change. The IPCC neither conducts research nor does it monitor climate-related data or parameters. Its reports are provided at regular intervals and immediately become standard works of reference, widely used by policymakers, experts, and students.
The Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) has been published, and all tasks under purview of the Working Group II Technical Support Unit (TSU) officially completed.

Leadership for the AR6 cycle was elected at the 42nd Session of the IPCC (5-8 October 2015 • Dubrovnik, Croatia). Working Groups were awarded to France/China (WGI), Germany/South Africa (WGII), and United Kingdom/India (WGIII), and the Task Force on Greenhouse Gas Inventories to Japan/Peru. The TSU managing Working Group II deliverables for the AR6 cycle is currently ramping up capabilities. In the interim, refer to the IPCC Secretariat web site for more information.
The WGII AR5 TSU has disbanded, and this WGII AR5 web site will no longer be maintained. A permanent record of all public-facing material — including Archive-It versions of micro-sites dedicated to launch of WGII AR5 and an IPCC Special Report on Extreme Events (SREX) — has been preserved at the Harvard Library's Environmental Science and Public Policy (ESPP) Archives. Compiled by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and former staff of U.S.-hosted TSUs and deposited at Harvard University, this collection of IPCC records spans the Second through Fifth Assessment Report cycles and features process-related material, report drafts, associated review comments and responses, the final digital publications, and more.
The outgoing WGII Co-Chairs, Christopher Field and Vicente Barros, as well as former staff of the WGII AR5 TSU, wish the new team success in all their efforts during the AR6 cycle.
