Quality Improvement and Evaluation ServiceQIES_ph-quies.jpg

The Quality Improvement and Evaluation Service (QIES) is responsible for coordinating activities and database functions that fall under the umbrella of the national QualityNet System developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Data is currently being collected from nursing homes, skilled nursing units, home health agencies, inpatient rehabilitation facilities and hospitals with swing beds. Data collected in this network is used by health care professionals to assist in the development of individual patient care plans and as a resource for quality improvement efforts within the health care setting. Nationally, the data assists researchers who are studying trends in health care and provides a basis for decision making in the development of future health care programs. The data is also used as a mechanism for acuity-based reimbursement systems found in both the Medicare and Medicaid programs throughout the United States.
