RAPIDSCAT SCHEDULED OUTAGES UPDATED Thu 2016_08_25 Z13:00 status: RAPIDSCAT IS DEACTIVATED due to a power system anomaly. The investigation is currently ongoing. RapidScat (RS) observes ocean wind vectors from the International Space Station (ISS). ISS activities sometimes require that RS stop observing winds or cause outages or poor RS data. When such activities are known in advance they are recorded here. Note that RapidScat is mounted so as to work best when ISS pitch is near -2.5 degrees. On 2015_08_19, RS transitioned to a Low SNR state. RS has unexpectedly returned to the preferred (nominal) SNR state for short periods of time on 2015_09_19 (for 19 days) and on 2016_02_08 (for two (2) days). The engineering team has been unable to control or predict these SNR state changes. If or when future transitions occur, there will be a few revs lost as automated processors detect and accommodate the different SNR states. So far, these changes have been rare and are not predictable. This schedule can be found at www.knmi.nl/scatterometer/rscat_del_25_prod/RapidScat_Scheduled_Outages.txt and at http://manati.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/rscat_images/monitor/RapidScat_Scheduled_Outages.txt Each site is automated and picks up updates to this schedule within a few hours.
