Building Systems
The energy requirements of a building depend not only on the individual performance of the envelope components (walls, windows, roofs), the HVAC systems, and the lighting systems, but also on their combined performance as a system throughout a building's life. Through its Building Systems Program, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has conducted research for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to:
- develop with industry tools that will facilitate the design of energy-efficient buildings
- develop technology and tools to optimize the combined performance of building systems and ensure their proper operation and maintenance
- bring benefits through energy savings from better building designs and improved operation and maintenance to the buildings sector.
