About the collections

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Digital Library is a searchable collection of selected images, historical artifacts, audio clips, publications, and video, most of which are in the public domain.  Those not in the public domain are intended for personal, private use.

We feature museum-quality Biological Teaching Collections of North American birds, fishes, and freshwater mussels.  The primary purpose for these images is to support National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) identification courses and to serve as a source of biological information for the public.  Additional information is available for Search Tips, Freshwater Mussels, Freshwater Mussel Propagation, and Freshwater Fishes.
