The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the only agency of the U.S. Government whose primary responsibility is fish, wildlife, and plant conservation. The Service helps protect a healthy environment for people, fish, and wildlife, and helps Americans conserve and enjoy the outdoors and our living treasures.

The Service's major responsibilities are:

  • Enforcing Federal wildlife laws
  • Protecting and recovering endangered species
  • Conserving and restoring vital wildlife habitat
  • Managing migratory bird populations
  • Restoring freshwater fisheries
  • Helping other governments with conservation efforts

Service employees here in Alabama are involved in a wide range of activities across the state.  The links to your left will lead you to additional information about many of these.  For a better idea of where they are and what they do to protect and conserve our precious natural resources, click on FWS in Alabama for a listing of websites for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service offices in Alabama.
