Energy Zones Mapping Tool

A map‑based tool for identifying areas within the United States that may be suitable for clean power generation.

Mapping Library

The EZMT features a large mapping library of energy resource, energy infrastructure, reference, and siting factor layers. Each layer can be displayed on the map, queried with the Identify tool, and used to make PDF maps. Most layer data can be downloaded.

Analysis Areas

Input areas for analysis using the Areas tool, then generate location-specific reports on energy resources, energy infrastructure, protected areas, habitat, and many others.

Models

The EZMT has a flexible modeling framework for identifying areas that may be suitable for any of over 30 clean power generation technologies. Over 70 modeling layers of siting factors can be used. This short video explains how to use the modeling tools.

Reports

EZMT reports generate location-specific results for user-input analysis areas or corridors. Topics include energy infrastructure, energy resources, the environment, model results, and others. This short video explains how to use the report tools.

Corridors

Potential energy transport corridor routes can be generated through a modeling process or input directly on the map, then analyzed and compared using the analysis tools. This short video explains how to generate corridor routes using modeling.

Policy

The EZMT database includes over 2,400 searchable records on laws, regulations, incentives, and other policies related to clean energy generation. Click the Policies & Regulations link above for the search form.

About the Tool

The Energy Zones Mapping Tool is a free online mapping tool to identify potential clean energy resource areas within the United States.

This web site provides information about the project, background on the energy resources, and details on the data layers used in the tool. There are also links to policies and regulations, printable maps, documents, and related links.
