Geophysical Database Access Using Oracle9i SQLJ Implementations

Nirva Morisseau-Leroy, Mark Powell
AOML/Hurricane Research Division

We will present a complete SQLJ program that illustrates how to efficiently insert atmospheric observation objects into the H*WIND Scientific Schema. The H*WIND database schema, designed for the NOAA/Hurricane Research Division, is stored in an Oracle8i data server located in Miami. The HRD's atmospheric scientists use the H*WIND database to generate real-time analyses of tropical cyclone surface wind observations from all over the World. This tutorial will focus on the basic features of SQLJ. SQLJ is an embedded SQL standard for Java specified by ANSI/ISO standards organization. Specifically, you will learn the major components of Oracle9i SQLJ, SQLJ declaration statements (iterator and connection context declarations, and SQLJ executable statements.
