A First Step: Z39.50 Access to The NOAA Library Catalog, NOAA Photo Library, and Office of Coast Survey's Historical Map and Chart Collection

The Coastal Services Center has developed a Z39.50 interface for the web for library users. This interface simultaneously searches three very different data bases: the NOAA Library catalog, the Library's NOAA Photo Library , and Office of Coast Survey's Historical Map and Chart Collection. With one search, web surfers can find photographs, maps, electronic and paper texts, related URLS, and any other formats in the NOAA Library's data base. Each of these data bases has a very different metadata structures.
