Using Interactive Web-based
Presentations to Deliver NOAA's Message
Mike Gerber
National Weather Service, Office of Climate, Water, and Weather
Services
Interactive Web-based presentations are used to convey a
concept or process. These presentations are effective at engaging
the general public and delivering a message whether the topic
is simple, exciting, complicated, or boring. However, Web-based
presentations are under-utilized on most Federal Government
Web sites.
Interactive Web-based presentations could be used to demonstrate
the importance of NOAA's efforts and educate the public about
NOAA technologies, projects, and processes such as Doppler radar,
ASOS, AWIPS, Numerical models, Satellites, Flash Flooding, and
the Sustainable Seas Expeditions.
An interactive Web-based presentation of Doppler radar, developed
using Macromedia Flash, will be demonstrated. The presentation
can be found on the Web at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/radar/radar.html.
This session will show you how NOAA could use interactive Web-based
presentation technologies to help deliver its message. You'll
want to think of ways you can use this technology.
