The Student Intern Program is designed to provide students who are enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in Federal agencies while still in school and get paid competitive wages for the work performed. Interns must be current students in an accredited school, including 2-4 year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges; professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institutions pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.

  • The Planning Center of Expertise for Inland Navigation and Risk-Informed Economics Division (PCXIN-RED) recognized two Economists, Eric Singley and James Nowlin, for their outstanding performance on two priority projects, Brandon Road and the Inner Harbor Navigation Channel (IHNC).

  • The Kids and Badges event was held in Circleville Ohio on September 10th 2016. Deer Creek Ranger Will Rutter, SCA Intern Nic Reisch, and Dillon Lake Park Ranger Bob Cifranic worked the event and made over 900 water safety contacts utilizing Corey, Bobber and Deer Creek Lake's water safety trailer.
  • Congratulations to the USACE Leadership Development Program II graduates who were honored at a ceremony at Mountwest Community and Technical College on Sept. 13, 2016. They took part in a year-long training program that prepares them for future leadership roles.
  • The Greenup Locks and Dam, located on the Ohio River at Greenup, Kentucky, is one of the busiest locks in the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. But maintenance work closed the main lock chamber since April 15, 2016, while crews removed -- and replaced - the massive miter gates at the downriver end of the lock. That can affect industry, causing barge traffic to slow down on the Ohio River -- and it brought a visit from Congressional representatives from three states -- Bill Johnson from Ohio's 6th District and Evan Jenkins from West Virginia's Third District as well as staff members from Senator Mitch McConnell's and Congressman Hal Rogers' of Kentucky offices.

  • The first wave of help from the Huntington District has made its way to flood-damaged areas of Louisiana (near Baton Rouge) to help provide housing for those who lost their homes in the disaster. That first group includes Housing Subject Matter Expert Wyatt Kmen, Resident Engineer Todd Newman, Quality Assurance Inspectors (QAs) Ron Saunders and Jim Rose, and Electrical Engineers Brian MacEachern and Mike Barbour. Joining them this week are QAs Bobby Angel and Steve Harris and Resident Engineer / Mission Manager Dennis Hughes.

Philip Secrist and twenty of his staff members and subject-matter-experts participated in the annual Small Business Conference that wrapped up May 11, 2016, at Marshall University’s Memorial Student Center in Huntington, W.Va. The third annual event was hosted by the Huntington Post of SAME (Society of Military Engineers). It offered guidance to more than 100 representatives of small businesses and included sessions on such topics as: Contracting 101, upcoming projects, networking opportunities, technical workshops, marketing plans and proposal writing tips.
