This position is located in the Office of the Secretary, Immediate Office, Office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO). As an Information Technology Specialist (DataMgt), Senior Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for leading the technical design and development of new data products and will play a key role in shaping the Engineering Team. The incumbent will guide, mentor, and manage junior engineers to ensure that projects are successfully executed and are aligned with the needs for Department of Commerce’s (DOC) 12 Bureaus. The incumbent will work closely with data experts in each of the DOC Bureaus to identify projects that make data more accessible to the public and improve the use of data in government. As the Head of Engineering, you will lead new data product and software product development at the Commerce Data Service (CDS) and manage the CDS Engineering Team (5-10 engineers). You will introduce modern software development methodologies and practices to the CDS team, advise Commerce Bureaus and stakeholders on their technology strategies, identify new and exciting product development opportunities at our partner agencies, and mentor junior developers.
