   Liberty, TX    State Research Center Seeks Local History   

The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center, part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, is on a campaign to broaden its collections in order to more fully document the history of the Southeast Texas region. The Center serves as the official regional historical resource depository for the historic Atascosito District, a ten county area including Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, and Tyler.

   Liberty, TX    Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center Begins Museum Renovation Project, Welcomes Public for Behind-the-Scenes tour on 3/18   

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission has contracted with Exhibit Concepts, in collaboration with Pony Allen Studios to renovate the museum space and reception area at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. The project will include an upgrade to the 1,900 square foot museum exhibit space with updated furnishings, displays, signage and a permanent exhibit highlighting the history of the Atascosito District.

   Austin, Texas    Texas Digital Archive Makes Available Records of Representative Sylvester Turner   

The official state records of longtime State Representative Sylvester Turner are now available online through the work of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Turner, who now serves as Mayor of Houston, represented House District 139 from 1989-2015.

   Austin, Texas    Study Shows $2.628 Billion in Economic Benefits from Texas Public Libraries   

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) has released a study showing that Texas public libraries provide $2.628 billion in economic benefits to the state. Collectively, in FY2015, Texas public libraries were found to offer a sizeable return on investment. For every one dollar spent, libraries offered $4.64 worth of services, resources, and economic opportunity to communities.

Recently, Gale partnered with Visual Learning Systems, an educational science publisher whose mission is to provide high quality, visual-based content that instructs, challenges, and inspires young learners.

Approximately 140 videos, including videos on topics frequently studied in middle school earth science and physical science courses, have been added to Gale's Science In Context.

   Austin, Texas    Texas Receives IMLS Grant for Multi-State Volunteer Initiative   

As part of a four state collaborative, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is the recipient of the FY2016 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian grant for the project “The Get Involved Collaborative: A Multi-State Approach to Increasing Volunteer Engagement.” The four state library agencies involved are California, Arizona, Texas and Idaho.
