It is an honor to announce Guilford County's Betty Hilliard as North Carolina's Sixth Congressional District's Community Hero of the Month. Each month, Rep. Walker is awarding a “Community Hero of the Month” to recognize extraordinary acts of service and generosity by individuals, businesses or organizations in North Carolina’s Sixth Congressional District that are compelled to make a difference in the lives around them and better their community.

The Taxpayers Before Insurers Act would require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to pay the $3.5 billion it has taken from taxpayers back to the U.S. Treasury or face a 50 percent cut in its operating budget.“In Washington, this kind of lawlessness gets overlooked too much. Federal bureaucrats are not above the laws they force upon the American people,” Walker said. “My bill is simple: I want HHS to follow the law it helped write.”

Government seems to always measure success and compassion by how many people are on social programs. Congressman Walker believes that the best way to measure success and compassion is by how few people are on social programs. Congressman Walker and former Congressman J.C. Watts recently toured Piedmont-Triad charitable, civic,and faith-based organizations to see how they're combating poverty from the people-up, not the government-down.

In a recent survey our office conducted, 71% of ‪NC-06‬ overwhelming agreed that states and local officials should be in control of primary and secondary education. On behalf of his constituents, Rep. Walker is championing that we truly restore local control of education and introduced the ‪#APLUS‬ amendment to ‪the Student Success Act.
