Please note there are several missing consecutive weeks due to 'active battery management' starting in 2011. These outages occur approximately every 6 months, and last 4-8 weeks. During those times, science instruments vital to measure the gravity field (e.g., MWA) are switched off, and no Level-2 or Level-3 data is available. Additionally, since 10/2016, GRACE-1 continues to collect nominal science data as before, but the accelerometer on GRACE-2 is turned off. Analysis is underway to evaluate Level-2 and Level-3 data products with these constraints. Please check back for updates. less

Top Data Sets

  • JPL Global Land / Ocean Mascons (RL05M_1.v02)

JPL's global mascons (land water storage & ocean bottom pressure) from GRACE are updated monthly, and are provided on 0.5-degree global grid.
  • GRACE Tellus LAND Grids

Land water storage from GRACE is updated monthly, and is provided on 1-degree global grids.
  • Interactive Data Browsers

The data browsers allow the interactive retrieval of GRACE Land data over river basins, as well as the evaluation of long-term trends and mean seasonal amplitudes. Courtesy of U. of Colorado / Boulder.

GRACE Follow-On

Launching in 2017, GRACE Follow-on (GRACE-FO) will continue GRACE's legacy of tracking Earth's water movement to monitor changes in underground water storage, the amount of water stored in large lakes and rivers, soil moisture, ice sheets and glaciers, and sea level caused by the addition of water to the ocean. These discoveries provide a unique view of Earth's climate and have far-reaching benefits to society and the world's population.

  • Static gravity field - anomalies (1)

The GRACE Intermediate Field 48 (GIF48 from UT-CSR) field model is an improved mean gravity field that combines GRACE observations and terrestrial gravity information The terrestrial gravity information was taken from the DTU10 global gravity field.  Shown here are the so-called free air gravity deviations from an ideal ellipsoidal Earth model, in units of milli-gal. Areas colored yellow, orange, or red are areas where the actual gravity field is larger than the featureless-Earth model predicts, while the progressively darker shades of blue indicate places where the gravity field is less.

  • Scale in the Sky

The force of gravity not only keeps us from floating away, it also lets NASA study Earth’s water and ice from space. Using a pair of twin satellites named "GRACE," we can monitor our planet’s water.

  • Amazon Basin seasonal hydrology

These images show the changes in gravity anomalies from GRACE over the Amazon Basin for each month of 2004.
