***ANNOUNCEMENT 09 September 2011: NODC releases AVHRR Pathfinder Version 5.2***
The NOAA National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) is pleased to release the AVHRR Pathfinder Ve
rsion 5.2 (PFV52) sea surface temperature data set. This new version of Pathfinder includes substantial updates to the data format, content, and metadata. While previous versions of Pathfinder, including V5.0 and V5.0, were in HDF-SDS format, the new Version 5.2 is in CF-compliant netCDF-4, conforming to the GHRSST Data Specification Version 2 (GDS2.0). Welcome
to the Long Term Stewardship and Reanalysis Facility (LTSRF) for the
Group for High Resolution SST (GHRSST), which is
routinely delivering individual as well as multi-sensor
blended SST products with high accuracy and fine spatial resolution. Please
see the GHRSST web site* for detailed
information on this international effort. This effort was known as the
GODAE High Resolution SST Pilot Project (GHRSST-PP) until June of 2008.
NODC maintains the long term archive and works with the NASA
JPL/Caltech Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC)
Global Data Assembly Center (GDAC)
to provide stewardship of these valuable data sets. NODC also leads the
reanalysis component of GHRSST, which coordinates international individual
and multi-sensor efforts to
produce more accurate and consistent Level 2 (swath), Level 3 (gridded),
and Level 4 (gap free, gridded) SST
climate data record analysis products for the global ocean. If you are
interested in automatically receiving updates and information regarding
GHRSST LTSRF activities, you are encouraged to subscribe to any or all of the following
three
RSS feeds. The first two provide occasional updates on News
and Operational messages, respectively, while the third provides a daily
update on the operational archival status.
