The Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Ocenography Ensemble Forecast System (FNMOC EFS) uses the Ensemble Transform technique to produce twenty perturbed initial conditions for twenty forecasts made using the Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS). The ensemble transform is currently solved over 5 latitude bands and includes an analysis error estimate derived from the Navy Atmospheric Variational Data Assimilation System (NAVDAS). The NOGAPS model used for the ensemble forecasts has spectral resolution T119 (about 90 km) horizontally and 30 vertical levels. Forecasts are made at 6 hour increments from 0 to 384 forecast hours. Forecasts are made twice per day for 00Z and 12Z. For further information contact Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center.
