Home > HIRESW documentation
The HiresWindow is a dual-core modeling system run at ~3-4 km horizontal spacing and without parameterized convection*. The two dynamical cores are the Advanced Research Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF-ARW) model and the Nonhydrostatic Multiscale Model on B-grid (NMMB).
This modeling system runs over five different domains on the following schedule:
00Z (CONUS, Hawaii, Guam)
06Z (Alaska and Puerto Rico)
12Z (CONUS, Hawaii, Guam)
18Z (Alaska and Puerto Rico)
All runs are statically initialized by interpolation of GFS and/or RAP (CONUS only) model output to generate the initial and lateral boundary conditions for the HiresWindow runs. The HiresWindow runs are integrated to 48 h.
The WRF-ARW is developed and supported by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and the NMMB is developed by NCEP/EMC and supported by the Developmental Testbed Center (DTC) at NCAR. More WRF information is available at http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/ for the WRF-ARW, and at http://www.dtcenter.org/wrf-nmm/users/ for the NMMB.
*NMMB runs over Puerto Rico and Guam do utilize parameterized convection
