...Water levels are running high along the Upper Arkansas River at
Salida...Wellsville...Parkdale...Canon City...Lower Arkansas River at
Pueblo...Avondale...Nepesta...La Junta...

Snow melt in the high country and releases from area reservoirs will
keep river levels running high.

River levels are expected to remain within banks...but the high flows
will still be dangerous. Those participating in activities near the
water are advised to use extreme caution. Strong currents could
quickly become a safety hazard.

Following is the latest available information...

Arkansas River Above Pueblo...
* At  6:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 5.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Avondale...
* At  6:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 5.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Nepesta...
* At  6:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 14.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.5 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At La Junta...
* At  6:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 9.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Salida...
* At  6:46 AM Wednesday the stage was 4.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River Near Wellsville...
* At  6:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 5.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Parkdale...
* At  6:45 AM Wednesday the stage was 5.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


Arkansas River At Canon City...
* At  6:15 AM Wednesday the stage was 8.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* No flooding is currently forecast.


High flows are not uncommon this time of year...but they still pose a
serious threat to persons in or near the water. Each year...high
flows result in mishaps that are sometimes fatal.

Stay away from the banks of rivers and streams. During high water...
saturated banks can easily break off and fall into potentially
deadly...fast flowing water.
