Preservation Education Workshop Series for Local Governments
The Office of Historic Preservation's (OHP) Local Government and Environmental Compliance Unit is pleased to offer an annual series of free educational workshops for local governments. The workshops cover a variety of preservation-related topics and provide a "toolkit" of knowledge to help make local preservation programs stronger and more effective.
2016 Local Government Workshops
Throughout 2016, we partnered with local governments around the state to host a series of historic preservation training opportunities. Attendees learned how to help initiate policies to preserve and protect historic and cultural resources in California. There are still two sessions remaining for this year! City of Napa
Friday, October 21, 2016
On October 21st, the City of Napa will host workshop attendees for a historic preservation training. Topics will include understanding laws and legal issues that form the basis for historic preservation planning. Attendees will learn the basic economic principals of historic preservation, and the types of preservation incentives available to local governments, including the Mills Act. Finally, attendees will learn the value of establishing an effective local historic preservation survey program that incorporates survey into the local landuse planning process.

City of Fresno
Friday, November 4, 2016
On Friday, November 4th the City of Fresno will host the final workshop in 2016. Sessions will include topics on how to craft an effective historic preservation ordinance, learning the economic benefits of historic preservation, and discussion of local preservation incentives, including the Mills Act. Attendees will learn the value of establishing an effective local survey program and how to incorporate survey results into local landuse planning.
