Southwest Region

The Southwest region boasts a wide diversity of wildlife and wildlife habitats. The region encompasses river canyons, sagebrush deserts, high mountain lakes, and mountainous forests. Regional waters include warmwater fisheries for bass, bluegill, yellow perch, crappie and channel catfish, while coldwater fisheries boast some of the finest trout, kokanee, steelhead and Chinook salmon fishing in the state.

SW Region Big Game Winter Feeding Update

Winter feeding efforts began, on a small scale, in the Garden Valley area on Sunday, January 22. Three historic feed sites were plowed out and feed bunks set up and loaded with specially formulated deer “pellets.” Two more sites were set up today, with several others coming on line tomorrow. At least eight feed sites – possibly more - will be up and running by week’s end along the S.

Commission to set moose, sheep and goat seasons this week in Boise

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will set seasons for moose, bighorn sheep, and mountain goat when it meets January 25 and 26 at Fish and Game headquarters in Boise.

Connector deer cause social concern

Public concern regarding several healthy deer near the I-184 "connector" led to an Idaho Fish and Game truck being sideswiped by a fellow motorist today in Boise. Both the small deer herd and the officer were reported to be in good health.
