Project Summary

Western Area Power Administration and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have prepared a PEIS to evaluate the impacts of wind energy development in Western's Upper Great Plains Region (all or parts of Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota), and on the Service's grassland and wetland easements in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. The PEIS identifies mitigation strategies, best management practices, and comprehensive environmental review procedures for evaluating future wind energy projects.

Records of Decision Issued
The Record of Decision for Western Area Power Administration was announced in the Federal Register on August 26, 2015, and the Record of Decision for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was announced in the Federal Register on July 7, 2016. Both records of decision are available under Documents.

Final UGP Wind Energy PEIS Released
The Final PEIS is now available for downloading or viewing under Documents.

Draft UGP Wind Energy PEIS Public Comment Period Closed
The public comment period on the Draft UGP Wind Energy PEIS is now closed. The public comment period began March 22, 2013, and was open through May 21, 2013.
