CEGIS research is focused on The National Map and 3DEP
The CEGIS vision is to conduct, lead, and influence the research and innovative solutions required by the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and the emerging GeoSpatial and GeoSemantic Web. CEGIS is a virtual organization with Federal and academic affiliate scientists conducting research in support of The National Map and the Three-Dimensional Elevation Program (3DEP).
Current CEGIS Projects
Data Integration - Thomas Shoberg
Data Integration research at CEGIS primarily involves integrating data from The National Map with selected datasets needed to support visualization, analysis, modeling and decision making efforts of the USGS, other government agencies and the general public.
|
Geospatial Semantics and Ontology - Dalia Varanka
Semantics of geospatial data and information to build user interfaces to USGS archives of science and data.
|
High-performance Computing (HPC) - Michael P. Finn
Perform investigations into understanding HPC applications development challenges in the scientific domain, particularly in GIScience, focusing on problems and issues related to multi-resolution raster data; using the pRaster- Blaster software package as a case study.
|
Integration of NGP Data within Fluid Dynamic Applications - Emmit Witt This research initially will use 3-D Elevation Program (3DEP) elevation products in a variety of fluid dynamic models (to include hydraulic, hydrology, storm-surge, and atmospheric) to evaluate performance and to improve the usability of the 3DEP product suite for science applications.
|
Multiscale Representation - Larry Stanislawski
This project identifies relations between map scale and geomorphological
characteristics of cartographic features to automate generalization and
define ontology patterns for feature extraction.
|
National Terrain Mapping - Sam Arundel
Lidar data are being acquired as a part of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and have sufficient resolution to capture the many and varied aspects of all types of terrain features.
|
Spatiotemporal Data Modeling - E. Lynn Usery
Multidimensional data models for support of The National Map, the 3 Dimensional Elevation Program (3DEP), and geospatial semantics.
