LDEQ Raises Awareness to Protect Drinking Water

Over the next few months, members of Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Drinking Water Protection Team will be visiting local businesses to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the source of drinking water in St. Tammany Parish.

Innophos Addresses Mismanagement of Hazardous Waste at Louisiana Facility Under Settlement Agreement

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced that Innophos has agreed to cease sending hazardous waste from the company's facility in Geismar, Louisiana, to an adjacent facility that was not permitted for hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal. The agreement resolves alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Innophos will also pay a $1,398,000 civil penalty.

LDEQ and Denka sign AOC designed to reduce chloroprene emissions at LaPlace facility

On Jan. 6, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) and Denka Performance Elastomer signed a formal document that outlines the company's voluntary commitment to reduce emissions of the chemical chloroprene.

Drinking Water Protection Program community meeting on Jan. 12 in Slidell will provide St. Tammany Parish residents with information on drinking water protection.

EPA Rebates Will Fund Cleaner School Buses in 88 Communities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today awarded more than $7.7 million to replace or retrofit 401 older diesel school buses. The funds are going to 88 school bus fleets in 27 states, each of which will receive rebates through EPA's Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) funding. The new and retrofitted buses will reduce pollutants that are linked to health problems such as asthma and lung damage.

    ERC Conference to be held at LDEQ on Jan.26

    The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will soon be implementing a revision to its emission reduction credit (ERC) banking rule that expands the eligibility of emission reduction projects to mobile sources (e.g. trucks, marine vessels, trains). Implementing this new ERC strategy will help improve Baton Rouge air quality and mitigate constraints to economic development of the current "point source only" banking system.
