Amy Fite is the elected prosecutor for Christian County and is the 47th president of MAPA since its inception in 1969.  Amy Fite began her second term as Christian County’s elected Prosecutor on January 1, 2015.  During her first term of office, some of the goals Amy accomplished was to transition to a fileless office, create a “no refusal” policy so that law enforcement could seek search warrants in cases involving impaired drivers that refused to give consent to provide a sample for alcohol analysis to law enforcement, re-structured the office into teams for better efficiency and accountability.  She also implanted a best practice of vertical prosecution – meaning the same prosecutor handles the case from case review through disposition.

Amy has over 17 years of prosecution experience. After graduating cum laude from St. Louis University School of Law in 1997, she started as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Christian County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where she was the narcotics attorney and prosecuted a caseload of mainly methamphetamine cases. Next, Fite spent approximately 8½ years at the Circuit Attorney’s Office in the City of St. Louis. While at the Circuit Attorney’s Office, Fite served in the Drug Court, Domestic Violence Unit, General Felony Trial Staff, Gang Unit, and the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit. Fite also spent 2½ years as the Trial Trainer, where she trained the incoming Assistant Circuit Attorneys in how to prepare and try jury trials. While at the Circuit Attorney’s Office, Fite participated in well over 100 jury trials, including successfully convicting murderers, robbers, rapists and child sex offenders. In 2008, she joined the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as the 1st Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the General Crimes Unit, where she supervised seven attorneys in a unit responsible for prosecuting property crimes, bad checks, DWIs and traffic related crimes.  As the elected Prosecutor, Fite continues to carry a caseload that includes murders and sexually related crimes.

Amy previously served as the chair of the chair of the MAPA Victim Services Sub-committee of the Best Practices Committee created by the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorney’s.    Amy was named as Family and Sexual Violence Hero of the Year in 2014 by the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorney.  She was named as one of the Twenty Most Influential Women in 2014 by the Springfield Business Journal.  In 2006, Amy was named as one of the State of Missouri’s ‘Up and Coming Lawyers’ by the Missouri Lawyers Weekly. Amy’s trial skills were recognized while at the Circuit Attorney’s Office by receiving the Trial Star Award three consecutive years and being a recipient of the Justice Award.

Amy has been given the opportunity to present at national and statewide conferences. In 2016 she co-presented at the Gundersen VIP Summit/When Words Matter conference on the benefits to prosecution of adopting practices of conducting forensic interviews of children beyond the age of the hearsay exception.  She is a member of the “ChildFirst” faculty that trains professionals from multiple disciplines that work with children who have been victims or witnesses to child abuse, neglect or other violent crimes.  She served several years as part of the faculty for the Missouri Office of Prosecution Trial Advocacy School to train new prosecutors. She has also served as faculty on “How to Prosecute the Child Sex Offender”. She was on the original faculty who created the curriculum. She has been a presenter on “How to Prosecute the Impaired Driver”, as well as presenting on various topics at the statewide Prosecutors Conference.
