New Year Brings Renewed Commitment for Human Rights

As we embark upon a new year, we affirm our long-standing commitment to safeguarding human rights.  As Iowans, we embody principles of freedom, dignity, and equality.  These rights belong to every person regardless of gender, age, physical attributes, immigrant status, culture/race, identity, class, or religion.  In 2017, you can help us make a difference by volunteering your time, serving on boards and commissions, connecting with lawmakers to discuss critical issues in your community, running for office, and being informed and educated.   Together, our actions will build on Iowa’s legacy of leading positive changes in attitudes and judgments, cultivating understanding of others, counteracting injustice, empowering those who have been marginalized, and encouraging broad civic participation as we make important decisions that shape our future.

Commissions, Boards & Councils

The DHR is your partner in building better communities for all who live here. We open doors, find answers, meet challenges and develop resources. We provide a link among agencies, nonprofits and outreach groups within the state, and between federal and state programs. Our approach stems from a Commission, Board and Council structure to ensure the distinct voices of all Iowans are heard.  If you are interested in serving on a commission or board, go to http://openup.iowa.gov to learn more about the application process.
