Volatile Organic Content (VOC)-Compliant Coating Systems for Carbon Steel Exposed to the Space Transportation System (STS) Launch Environment: 60-Month Exposure Results

February 1997

By: Louis MacDowell

Abstract

This report is to document the 60-month performance of VOC-compliant coating systems for carbon steel exposed to the STS launch environment. This evaluation program was initiated in 1990 to identify corrosion resistnat coating materials for use at KSC that would comply with proposed Clean Air legislation. KSC-STD-C-0001 requires an evaluation at the 60-month exposure period for material evaluation for final approval of products. This report provides information for the revision of approved coating systems listed in KSC-STD-C-0001.
